Rosé is all about pure refreshment and enjoyment – the perfect reflection of Australia’s spring and summer lifestyle. A wine for fun with friends, the sun deck, the beach, the great outdoors and of course for just about every style of casual cuisine imaginable.
The Clare Valley has established a global reputation for dynamic wines which thrive in the region’s unique landscape, geology and climate – Riesling being its number one ambassador. The same conditions are perfectly suited to specifically growing certain red grapes for similarly styled fresh and sprightly rosé.
The Clare Valley’s reputation for fine wine covers the spectrum of traditional varieties to exciting contemporary styles. Koonowla’s beautifully renovated cellar door overlooks the stunning homestead gardens and rolling vineyards adjacent to the property. Since the property’s establishment in 1896, each custodian has added something unique to the Koonowla story.
The historic cellar door and stunning event spaces are our family’s history in the making.
Just west of the Auburn township, our estate vineyard is set on a southern-facing, rocky site that is perfect for nurturing cool-climate fruit characters in both red and white varieties.
Our rosé is a distinctive, fresh style made from Merlot that has been managed in the vineyard specifically to express amazing flavour while still retaining palate excitement and aromatic lift.
This variety has proved to us that if we pick it early in its ripening phase, we are able to tease out a fabulous array of fresh and tangy berry flavours that introduce a vivacious personality to the finished wine, as well as providing genuine palate depth and a salivating finish.
In the winery we don’t interfere too much with the fruit, and without using oak we can deliver a rosé that is bright and fun to drink on its own while also being an entertaining lunch and dinner companion.
