Pinot Gris can come in many styles of wine, from crunchy and crisp through to broader and richer, and sometimes even with a pale pink-bronze colour.
The Clare Valley is well suited to the variety given the region’s global reputation for excellent dry Rieslings, which inform the way the best Pinot Gris in the region is created with a similar exciting personality.
The Clare Valley’s reputation for fine wine covers the spectrum of traditional varieties to exciting contemporary styles. Koonowla’s beautifully renovated cellar door overlooks the stunning homestead gardens and rolling vineyards adjacent to the property. Since the property’s establishment in 1896, each custodian has added something unique to the Koonowla story.
The historic cellar door and stunning event spaces are our family’s history in the making.
Our Pinot Gris
Grown on an elevated, rocky site west of the township of Auburn, our single-vineyard Pinot Gris takes its time during the season’s cool nights in reaching the perfect point of ripeness to create a brilliantly fresh style of wine.
The 2021 vintage is regarded as one of the best in the region for many years, delivering pristine fruit and exquisite wines across all varieties. To leverage such a gift from nature, we went the extra yards in the vineyard, thinning the crop to enhance the wine’s intensity, and hand-harvesting to ensure the purity we believe is key to our wines’ enjoyment.
In the winery we handle the fruit gently with minimal interference and inputs, protecting the delicate purity of our Pinot Gris fruit and attaining the bright wine style we love to drink ourselves.
You want crisp and refreshing drinking thrills? Taste our Pinot Gris – it delivers exciting summer refreshment in every sip.
